All about HID headlights For a long time cars have relied upon halogen bulbs for headlights, these provide a much brighter clearer light than any incandescent light that is in existence. These HID headlights have received mixed reviews from drivers as they produce quite a lot of glare for other drivers and can be quite blinding through rear view and side view mirrors. Many other drivers assume that these cars have their full beam headlights on as HID’s are just as bright or even brighter, it’s just something that people will have to get used to. Xenon HID bulbs produce a whiter and much brighter light than halogen which tends to produce a yellowish light at low wattages. HID lamps work by striking or arcing electricity across two tungsten elements that are housed inside a tube. This tube is filled with one of the gasses such as xenon and a metal. The metals inside heat up producing plasma which emits light.

HID lamps aren’t just used in car headlights, they’re also used for lighting areas that need a lot of light and/or have high ceilings, normally in gyms, warehouses, roads, paths. These HID lamps can provide near daylight brightness. Recently HID has been adopted by retail and residential applications. HID lamps are able to emit light almost as clear as daylight, and they make indoor gardening possible. There have been some problems with some HID bulbs, although these were mainly with Mercury vapour bulbs which produced UV radiation.
