You’ve got to get to a wedding but you left too late because your wife took too long getting ready, so what do you do? Well what I did was put my foot down and drove at the speed of light! Well ok not quite, but it felt like it and I was definitely speeding! I’m sure you all know what I’m talking about, you’re driving along and it’s a lovely sunny day and then there’s a flash. You think is it lightening? But it isn’t until a few miles down the road that you realise that it was one of those horrible speed cameras. So on the way to the wedding a speed camera took my photo!
I really hate speed cameras, I actually prefer policemen and that’s saying something! At least a policeman is a human being and you can try saying sorry and appealing to his better nature, but the damn speed camera is a machine. The only thing that happens when a speed camera gets you is that you get a letter through the mail a few weeks later asking you to pay.
Some people hate speed cameras more than me! There are some ‘groups’ that have taken beating speeding tickets a little too literally by actually beating the speed cameras. Of course we do not encourage this behaviour, but it is hilarious, one guy in England recently even cut the ‘head’ off one with a plasma cutter and is using it to decorate his home, well he was until the police found out who he was through the internet blogging community.

Police authorities like speed cameras because they generate huge revenues, just think how many times one flashes everyday. How else do you think the government covers all their wanton waste? If the local municipality needs more revenue than all they have to do is shorten the time the yellow light is displayed and more people will get tickets. It is basically a legal scam. Governments claim that speed cameras help protect drivers and pedestrians by making people slow down, but personally I think they make driving more dangerous. Most people know where the speed cameras are, so they speed up to them, slam their brakes on and then speed up after they’ve passed them. Anyone that doesn’t know where the cameras are could find themselves in the back of somebody else’s car! Data from the National Highway Safety Association proves that speed cameras actually cause more accidents on average, the only thing speed cameras help is government coffers.
There are ways to beat speeding tickets, but not all of them are legaleverywhere, and some are actually illegal everywhere. The most popular is a radar detector, this will alert you when you are near a speed camera, and it also detects those radar guns that the police use. As soon as your speed trap detector starts beeping at you, you know it’s time to slow down. Of course there are problems with these, there are different bands that the speed cameras use, and one of them is very close to the frequency used by automatic doors! So there can be quite a lot of false alarms.

Another solution is a GPS system that has stored locations of where the speed cameras are, but the problem with these are that they don’t detect mobile speed cameras and they don’t detect police men!
There is even reflective paint, or a film that you can put on your licence plate. Putting this on your licence plate makes your plate extremely reflective, when the camera flashes the number on your licence plate is burnt out. People say that this works very well, however I think this is illegal in most states, but people argue that nobody can tell. This film may be difficult to come by it’s easiest to find if you order it from another country. Upon some research it has been determined that clear coat paint with a small amount of fine, metallic glitter will do the job. Whatever you do when trying to beat speeding tickets don’t take it out on the speed cameras, this could land you in much more trouble than a simple speeding ticket!

Due to the recent popularity of big, oversized chrome wheels and spinners that tend to be much larger than the original diameter wheels that came with the car, many people may be speeding and not even know it. Yes, that’s right, when you change the size of your wheels you need to have your cars speedometer recalibrated as your change in wheel diameter could cause you to be off by 5 to even 10 or more mph.
