Car repair and service scams and how to avoid being scammed especially for single mothers Before I start on the how of avoiding these scams I have to tell you a story that recently happened to me and keep in mind that I have over 25 years experience in the automotive business, so if it can happen to me it can happen to anyone. I can only imagine the fleecing that goes on in the car repair business with single mothers and others that can least afford to be swindled and scammed of their last dollars. I didn’t know why it came on, but was hoping and praying that it wasn’t anything serious. So, the next day I took it into my local car dealers service department and asked them to diagnose it and find out what was wrong with it or why the service light had come on and to do an oil change on it (as one was about due). After about an hour the service advisor came and got me and gave me some startling news. He said it was bad and wanted the technician to show me the problems. They told me that’s because the engine is so hot it vaporizes too fast and is hard to see. I pointed at the seals they were indicating and stated that they were recently replaced by the cars previous owner and there was no leak there.
