Car safety – the need for defensive driving schools

American children and teens grow up around cars, it’s more than likely that they have seen many major movies with fast, exotic cars featured throughout or even as the main characters like in Cars the movie. Because of this, young people are completely obsessed with cars especially fast cars like the ones they see in the movies like Tokyo Drift and The Fast and the Furious (many movies like this actually encourage illegal street racing and unsafe aggressive driving by teens). Many children will learn to drive as soon as they are allowed to, perhaps this is the only sort of learning our children actively want to do!
Worried parents on the other hand do not want their children to drive so early, the thought of allowing their children to drive scares many! If you have children who drive I’m sure you can appreciate this. How many times have you waited up for your children to arrive home after they’ve been out? I would think there are too many times to count!

Defensive driving schools can help to put a parents mind at ease however. The modern drivers ed classes offered in high schools simply aren’t good enough, what your child needs is some extra training before they are allowed to go on any long distance trips.
The current driver’s education classes in most schools like to try to scare children into behaving by showing them videos of car crashes, however I think this is completely the wrong way to go. Many kids actually see the films as entertaining and laugh at them (definitely not the desired result)! I think children should be taught how to control the car properly and responsibly rather than just scaring them.
Defensive driving lessons do not rely upon scare tactics, instead they teach people to become better drivers and help them find ways to actually avoid accidents like following at a safe distance. Knowing the risks are unlikely to do anything to help unless they know what to do.
